Being Trans with Strength
Trans & Gender Fluid Individual Support Group
Chronic invalidation, internalized oppression, depression, substance use, minority stress, acute and chronic gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, discrimination-driven social anxiety, lack of community...these are just a few of the issues that come up for us trans folx.
This 8-session support group fuses DBT and CBT-skills building with lived-experience story sharing. The goal is to provide trans and gender non-conforming folx a safe space with similarly-identifying folx to develop skills for managing day-to-day challenges.
Trans-female and trans-male mentors will be present in addition to the provider to offer peer support. Attendees will be invited to access online digital communities where they can get to know their cohort colleagues better and support them in their moments of joy and need!
Supporting Trans Folx with Strength
Families/Loved Ones of Trans & Gender Fluid Individuals with Mental Health/Addiction Challenges
Families with trans and gender-fluid members need support too. The need for support increases ten-fold if it so happens that their loved on/family member is also living with co-occurring challenges such as a substance/alcohol-use disorder, eating disorder, process addiction (e.g. sex or gambling), gender dysphoria or primary mental health challenge.
People in these positions are faced with overlapping and maybe even competing challenges around validation, support, affirmation, communication and boundaries. They may be invested in continually evolving their communication and adapting the way they show up for their family member/loved one as their journeys and their age progresses. They may struggle with support and understanding (for ethnological, religious or other reasons), but want to try.
Dr. Patrick Lockwood, PsyD. has an illustrious background in the treatment industry. He has worked extensively on creating opportunities for parents to better support their children in times of need. He will be assisted by a speaker series of trans individuals, trans parents, therapists and other providers, creates a space for everyone to learn together, to process in community, and to not lose sight of themselves in the journeys they embark on with their kids.
Parents may be experiencing their own life challenges and not have a space to process those feelings because their support is disproportionately geared towards caring for their children. Meeting other parents similarly situated can create a life-saving bond.

Discord Server
Rainbow Transformations maintains and moderates a safe space for trans and gender diverse people in recovery. We define recovery broadly to include those who are sober from drugs/alcohol or other behaviors (sex, love and gambling addictions), as well as in disordered eating recovery and working through self-harm issues.
Several members of the group with coaching or nursing certifications are available via DM for individual support.
People can use the space to chat openly about recovery, challenges, in-person and online meetings they go to etc.
